CVE-2023-54145

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF) verifier log. A local user can exploit this by providing excessively long BPF Type Format (BTF) names or BTF.ext source code line strings. This can lead to the truncation of a single verifier log line, potentially obscuring important debugging information. While the kernel code continues to function correctly, this issue represents a minor denial of service affecting the logging mechanism.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart; Other

Floods often cause a crash or other problem besides denial of the resource itself; these are likely examples of *other* vulnerabilities, not an insufficient resource pool.
