CVE-2023-49087

Description

A flaw was found in xml-security due to insufficient verification of data authenticity. If an attacker manipulates the canonicalized version's DigestValue, the cryptographic signature on the SignedInfo tree could be forged.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation

AC:H - If an attacker somehow (i.e. by exploiting a bug in PHP's canonicalization function) manages to manipulate the canonicalized version's DigestValue - This falls under High Attack Complexity as described in the standard's specifications: "requires the attacker to invest in some measurable amount of effort in preparation or execution against the vulnerable component before a successful attack can be expected"
