CVE-2023-45871

Description

A flaw was found in igb_configure_rx_ring in drivers/net/ethernet/intel/igb/igb_main.c in the IGB driver in the Linux kernel. An overflow of the contents from a packet that is too large will overflow into the kernel's ring buffer, leading to a system integrity issue.

Statement

This flaw is rated as Important because of its nature of exposure to the threat of impacting Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability by an attacker while being in an adjacent physical layer with no privilege required.

The attacker will need to be on the Adjacent physical layer (AV:A), as the data in the physical hardware maximum transmission unit (MTU) and not in the TCP protocol.

The E1000_RCTL_SBP bit is set only if the administrator enabled ethtool -K rx-all on (edited), That's more like a debugging feature, not likely to be enabled in production, because its not default, ie, not usually configured (AC:H)
