CVE-2023-28101

Insights vulnerability analysis
Description
A flaw was found in Flatpak, a system for building, distributing, and running sandboxed desktop applications on Linux. Suppose an attacker publishes a Flatpak app with elevated permissions. In that case, they can hide those permissions from users of the flatpak(1)
command-line interface by setting other permissions to crafted values that contain non-printable control characters such as ESC.
Mitigation
Use a GUI like GNOME Software rather than the command-line interface, or only install apps whose maintainers you trust.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
Red Hat | NVD | |
---|---|---|
CVSS v3 Base Score | 6.2 | 4.3 |
Attack Vector | Local | Network |
Attack Complexity | Low | Low |
Privileges Required | None | Low |
User Interaction | None | None |
Scope | Unchanged | Unchanged |
Confidentiality Impact | High | None |
