CVE-2022-50883

Description

A flaw was found in the BPF Type Format (BTF) validation. A crafted BTF blob can reference a decl_tag type from a func_proto argument, bypassing intended validation and potentially causing issues during BPF program verification.

Statement

Exploiting this requires the ability to load BPF programs, which needs CAP_BPF or CAP_SYS_ADMIN. The impact is limited to causing BTF parsing issues rather than direct code execution.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
