CVE-2022-49352

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ext4 filesystem, which can lead to inconsistencies between an inode's in-memory size (i_size) and its on-disk size (i_disksize). This issue occurs when a file's size is increased, but the operation fails to mark the inode as dirty due to memory allocation errors (e.g., -ENOMEM). Consequently, i_disksize is updated while i_size remains unchanged, triggering warnings during direct I/O write operations, which can cause filesystem instability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
