CVE-2022-48982

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A local attacker, by repeatedly replugging a specific type of fake Bluetooth controller (CSR 5.0 clones), can cause the system to crash. This denial of service (DoS) vulnerability occurs because the suspend notifier is registered twice, leading to a kernel panic.

Mitigation

To mitigate this issue, prevent the `btusb` and `bluetooth` kernel modules from loading. This can be achieved by creating a modprobe configuration file.

1. Create a file named `/etc/modprobe.d/disable-bluetooth.conf` with the following content:

blacklist btusb
blacklist bluetooth
2. Reboot the system for the changes to take effect, or unload the modules if they are currently loaded:
bash
sudo modprobe -r btusb bluetooth
This action will disable all Bluetooth functionality on the system.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
