CVE-2022-48797
Description
A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel's memory management system, where the change_pte_range() function improperly attempts to NUMA-migrate Copy-On-Write pages with existing references. This occurs due to an incorrect check using page_mapcount, leading to potential corruption when NUMA balancing is enabled without process affinity. The impact of this vulnerability can result in data corruption during DMA operations, affecting system reliability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Other
Technical Impact: Varies by Context
This can lead to incorrect results and resultant weaknesses. For example, the code might inadvertently compare references to objects, instead of the relevant contents of those objects, causing two "equal" objects to be considered unequal.
