CVE-2021-47302
Description
A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel's Intel Gigabit Ethernet driver. This issue occurs in the igc_poll function, where a piece of memory is accessed after it has been freed during a reset operation. This could lead to invalid memory access, causing potential system crashes if the driver tries to use or free the already-deleted memory.
Statement
This vulnerability is classified as moderate severity because it affects system stability, which could lead to crashes or degraded performance, but it does not expose sensitive information or allow unauthorized access.
Mitigation
Red Hat has investigated whether a possible mitigation exists for this issue, and has not been able to identify a practical example. Please update the affected package as soon as possible.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
