CVE-2021-3875
Description
There's an out-of-bounds read flaw in Vim's ex_docmd.c. An attacker who is capable of tricking a user into opening a specially crafted file could trigger an out-of-bounds read on a memmove operation, potentially causing an impact to application availability.
Statement
This flaw does not affect vim as shipped in any versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux because it was introduced in a newer version than those shipped.

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation
We've set C:N/I:N because although this occurs on a call to memmove(), the flaw is an out-of-bounds read operation and not in the write operation. Therefore, the risk is to application availability rather than integrity and confidentiality. This is also evident by the reporter's ASAN report which identifies this as READ rather than WRITE. We did not mark confidentiality impact because Vim is not an inherently networked program and such an out-of-bounds read would not automatically return any sensitive data to an attacker.

An attacker could cause a segmentation fault or crash by causing memory to be read outside of the bounds of the buffer. This is especially likely when the code reads a variable amount of data and assumes that a sentinel exists to stop the read operation, such as a NUL in a string.
