CVE-2020-27822

Description

A flaw was found in Wildfly. When an application uses the OpenTracing API's java-interceptors, there is a possibility of a memory leak. This flaw allows an attacker to impact the availability of the server. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation

Red Hat Products do not enable some conditions required for this flaw, and as such have a base score that differs from NVD's base evaluation, AC:L-> AC:H, the attack is possible when an application uses the OpenTracing API's java-interceptors. This condition is beyond the control of a potential attacker unless the attacker has significant access to the host server or the application increasing the complexity of the attack. Also a potential attacker should have significant access to the host system or Admin Console to access the logs where the confidential information is leaked. The resulting score and impact are 5.9/Moderate.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart; DoS: Instability; DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory)

Most memory leaks result in general product reliability problems, but if an attacker can intentionally trigger a memory leak, the attacker might be able to launch a denial of service attack (by crashing or hanging the program) or take advantage of other unexpected program behavior resulting from a low memory condition.

Other

Technical Impact: Reduce Performance
