CVE-2015-8215
Public on
Last Modified:
Description
It was found that the Linux kernel's IPv6 network stack did not properly validate the value of the MTU variable when it was set. A remote attacker could potentially use this flaw to disrupt a target system's networking (packet loss) by setting an invalid MTU value, for example, via a NetworkManager daemon that is processing router advertisement packets running on the target system.
Statement
This issue does not affect the Linux kernel packages as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and MRG-2 as this flaw was fixed in the recent releases.
This issue affects the Linux kernel packages as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Future updates for the respective releases may address the issue.
This issue affects the Linux kernel packages as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. This has been rated as having Moderate security impact and is not currently planned to be addressed in future updates of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. For additional information, refer to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Life Cycle: https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
