Get Started

This guide outlines how to perform an express installation of Red Hat Directory Server for x86_64 architectures.

  1. Install a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 server with an active network connection.
  2. Subscribe the system via Red Hat Subscription Manager and attach the subscription providing Red Hat Directory Server:

    # subscription-manager register

    # subscription-manager list --available --all

Make note of the pool id providing Red Hat Directory Server:

    # subscription-manager attach --pool=POOL_ID

  3. Enable the directory server repository:

    # subscription-manager repos --enable rhel-server-6-rhds-9-rpms

  4. Install the directory server packages:

    # yum install redhat-ds

  5. Ensure that a real domain name is specified in the /etc/resolv.conf file and that a hostname is set within the /etc/hosts file.
  6. Run the directory server installation script, selecting the defaults or customizing as desired:

    # /usr/sbin/setup-ds-admin.pl

  7. Once complete, the directory server is now installed and running. Determine the address and port of the admin server:

    grep \^Listen /etc/dirsrv/admin-serv/console.conf

    Listen 0.0.0.0:9830

  8. Connect to the administrative console:

    /usr/bin/redhat-idm-console -a http://localhost:9830

  9. Learn to use the features of Red Hat Directory Server by reviewing the Administration Guide.
