samba-4.1.4 build using waf

I'd like to know if anyone has had any experience in performing a samba build using waf.
I recently downloaded samba-4.1.4 from the samba.org website.
Using their recommended waf configure/build/install procedures
I've attempted to install the latest "stable" release of samba on my rhel 6.5 workstation.
The waf "configure" procedure ran w/o any apparent errors.
The next step calls for a waf "build"...
it is here that I run into problems.
The Build ends with a cryptic
"Invalid bin base"
I first contacted the people who support waf, however they told me that the message was generated by the waf package created by the samba group. Soooo
I've tried contacting the samba group and thus far I have gotten zero responses back.
Perhaps someone has run across this message, or better still someone knows who to contact at samba support that will respond
