Red Hat Achieves Top Security Certification for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 - How are YOU using Red Hat for your security needs?

Yesterday Red Hat announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, including the KVM Hypervisor, has been awarded the Common Criteria Certification Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 4+. This certification is the highest level of assurance for an unmodified operating system which supports the Operating System Protection Profile (OSPP). This profile provides guidelines that enable modularity and flexibility using the Common Criteria regulations. Extended modules for the certification include Advanced Management, Advanced Audit, Labeled Security, and Virtualization for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 on Dell, HP, IBM and SGI hardware.

For customers in regulated environments such as government agencies, financial firms, and organizations mandated with strict privacy protection, formal security certifications are an important factor in their purchase decision. Red Hat has long understood the critical role these certifications play in providing assurance that our solutions adhere to specific security requirements. As a result, we put our products through the internationally recognized Common Criteria certification process. We are also very pleased to have worked with some of our strategic partners - Dell, HP, IBM and SGI, on the hardware certification as part of this award.
