802.1x machine auth on wired network for RHEL 5.x, possible?

Hello All:

It is possible to configure 802.1x (machine) authentication on RHEL 5.X? (I've to work specifically with 5.3 or 5.7)
All the examples I've found (not many really) seems to apply to version 6.x

The rest of the authentication infrastructure (switch & authentication server) is Cisco.

If you know that this is possible, can you share an example configuration of the relevant files? (ifcfg.eth , wpa_supplicant.conf)

Any help will be much appreciated!!!
