satellite shows packages available, yum update doesn't

Running satellite 5.8 on rhel 6.9
clients are rhel 6.9

I have a satellite server that shows packages available for the clients. When I ssh to client, and yum update,
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, search-disabled-repos, security,
: subscription-manager
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or RHN Satellite.
Setting up Update Process
No Packages marked for Update

No updates show to be available. From what I can tell, I have the channels needed, otherwise I don't know why satellite would show updates available, when it didn't before I synced the channels.
So, I assume it is something on the client end, but maybe satellite isn't serving updates?
