  • GUI does not autostart, inittab runlevel 5

    Posted on

    Hi all,
First time poster here. I've been doing a lot of searches but haven't found an answer to my issue yet.

Note that this RHEL 6.5 is running in a VM. Never had any issues with loading the GUI automatically. We had a power outage the other night, and when I came to boot the VM up, the GUI would not load. I can SSH into the VM and start the GUI manually via startx or gdm.
The runlevel is already set to 5 in /etc/inittab, id:5:initdefault: but it still does not start automatically.

I also read that the GUI itself may not be set to the appropriate run level. I've used chkconfig to look at each item's runlevel at startup, but I do not recognize the GUI's entry in the list.

I'm no Linux expert but I am learning. Any direction/guidance/suggestions would be appreciated.

    TIA
