  • Satellite 6 - How to better organize your hosts

    Posted on

    Hi,

    We are in the middle of a Satellite 6 implementation (we are migrating from our sat 5) and we've reached the point to which we should start looking at how we organize our servers , mostly to make the configuration management easier or us.

    The way satellite works with the host groups kinda limits what we can do with activation key and puppet environments , so the approach we are taking is something like this for hostgroups

    OS -> Platform -> Location

    Now, this leaves us with a situation where we would have to create multiple puppet environments to match these host groups (since we can only match them 1:1)
    Are we overdoing this? Do you folks have any experience with environments like the one we have? I'd love to know how other organizations manage their SAT6 in this regard.

    PS:

    This is how the environment looks like

    -RHEL7
