  • Pip on FIPS-enabled Systems

    Posted on

We typically use the pip utility to upgrade components of our python installations. However, we've found that, when we FIPS-enable our RHEL hosts, pip - whether installed from the "optional" RHN repository, EPEL or SCL - longer works. The pip's shipped by Red Hat and Fedora default to referencing the repositories that use md5-based signatures. Under FIPS, MD5 is disabled, so pip no longer works. The pip utility - at least the version installed via EPEL/optional (haven't found the juju for the SCL-installed version, yet) - can be coaxed to work by forcing it to use a different index-url, but was wondering if there was a better method for this/
