  • libvirtd: Failed to autostart VM '<name>': Activation of org.freedesktop.machine1 timed out

    Posted on

I am attempting to resolve why a VM won't autostart properly on a RHEL 7.2 server host. What appears to be the relevant logs are:

Sep 15 08:02:50 chinook kernel: br0: port 2(vnet0) entered forwarding state
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook dbus[1567]: [system] Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.machine1': timed out
    Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook libvirtd[2801]: libvirt version: 1.2.17, package: 13.el7_2.5 (Red Hat, Inc. , 2016-05-26-07:48:46, x86-020.build.eng.bos.redhat.com)
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook libvirtd[2801]: Activation of org.freedesktop.machine1 timed out
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook dbus-daemon[1567]: dbus[1567]: [system] Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.machine1': timed out
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook kernel: br0: port 2(vnet0) entered disabled state
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook kernel: device vnet0 left promiscuous mode
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook kernel: br0: port 2(vnet0) entered disabled state
Sep 15 08:03:03 chinook libvirtd[2801]: Failed to autostart VM 'level2-dc': Activation of org.freedesktop.machine1 timed out

Once the machine boots, I am able to log in and

    virsh start level2-dc
without any known issue. Any ideas on what I have misconfigured?
