408 Proxy errors abundant in RHEL 7.1

We just converted our RHEL 6.5 to RHEL 7.1. Where we never have had hundreds of HTTP 500s before (or 408s before which were never heard of)
we are now receiving several hundred per hour, which our customers are receiving and of course are complaining about. Is there a known fix for this?
I know there was a bug fix to change some of the erroneous HTTP 500s to 408s, but we receive, and previously received, very few 500s. I am talking
about literally hundreds of 408s now per hour, and they started right after the cut-over to RHEL 7.1. I have goggled but so far all I see is the bug fix
for the HTTP errors from 500 to 408, which is of no help.
