Topic

Updated redhat-access-plugin-sat5, spacewalk-backend, spacewalk-java, spacewalk-schema, spacewalk-utils, satellite-branding, and satellite-schema packages that add four enhancements and fix two bugs are now available for Red Hat Satellite 5.8.0.

Description

Red Hat Satellite provides a solution to organizations requiring absolute control over and privacy of the maintenance and package deployment of their servers. It allows organizations to utilize the benefits of Red Hat Network (RHN) without having to provide public Internet access to their servers or other client systems. Red Hat Satellite 5.8.0 can be upgraded to from earlier releases.

This update adds the following enhancements:

  • This update introduces the spacewalk-manage-snapshots tool, which enables the Satellite Administrator to manage snapshots more effectively, and provides a number of improvements over the current snapshot management tool, sw-system-snapshot. For more information, see the spacewalk-manage-snapshots manual page. (BZ#1554307)
  • A way to manage errata from the web UI or the API using information about errata severity (critical, important, low) has been added. (BZ#1544350, BZ#1552537, BZ#1538096)
  • Starting with Fedora 27 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, repositories will use two types of debug packages: debuginfo and debugsource. Previously, the package details page (/rhn/software/packages/Details.do?pid=<ID>) contained only a link to download the debuginfo package. With this update, debugsource packages are also shown in the web UI.

Additionally, debuginfo packages are built for every sub-package of a single source package, not only one debuginfo package per source package as before. These changes are reflected in Satellite and debuginfo packages are properly detected for each sub-package. (BZ#1568724)

  • Fedora 28 repositories and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 repositories will support modules.yaml, a new format of metadata which provides additional functionality for grouping packages into modules. Support for syncing and distributing of modules' metadata files, similar to support for groups files, has been added to Satellite. As a result, it is now possible to use the package module functionality if the repository used to sync packages into Satellite contains a module metadata file. (BZ#1543381)

In addition, this update fixes the following bugs:

  • When logged in as any user that was not a Satellite administrator, the "Red Hat Access Insights" information kept being refreshed on the Systems page every 5 seconds, which prevented using that page. This has been fixed and the Systems page is no longer refreshed every 5 seconds. (BZ#1549518)
  • Errata iconography in the web UI was not consistent with other Red Hat products. After applying this fix, Satellite errata iconography is consistent with other Red Hat products. (BZ#1537108)

Users of Red Hat Satellite 5.8.0 are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Application of this errata involves updating the database schema.

Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied. To apply this erratum, take the following steps:

  • Shut down Red Hat Satellite by running the following command as root:

rhn-satellite stop

  • Back up the database. For embedded or managed database variants, consult Red Hat Satellite 5.8 documentation. For an external database, consult your database administrator.
  • Upgrade the errata packages. Details on how to apply this update are available at https://access.redhat.com/site/articles/11258
  • Update the database schema using the spacewalk-schema-upgrade command. To do so, run as root:

spacewalk-schema-upgrade

This process will update your database schema to the latest version. The
spacewalk-schema-upgrade command will inform you about the results of the
upgrade and exact locations of schema upgrade log files.

  • Restart Red Hat Satellite by running the following as root:

rhn-satellite start

Affected Products

  • BZ - 1544350 - Add possibility to manage errata severity via API/WebUI
  • BZ - 1549518 - System page is being refreshed every 5s with insights enabled and non satellite admin user
  • BZ - 1552537 - KeyError: 'severity' caught when exporting channel with rhn-satellite-exporter
  • BZ - 1554307 - [RFE] Spacewalk needs a way for the Spacewalk Adminstrator to manage Snapshots
