Topic

Updated ovirt-hosted-engine-ha packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available.

Description

The ovirt-hosted-engine-ha package enables the self-hosted engine to be highly available. A self-hosted engine is a virtualized environment in which the Red Hat Virtualization Manager runs on a virtual machine on the hosts managed by the Manager. If the host running the virtual machine goes into maintenance, the virtual machine is migrated automatically to another host in the environment.

Changes to the ovirt-hosted-engine-ha component:

  • Previously, deploying self-hosted engine hosts through Administration Portal was not allowed if the cluster compatibility level was earlier than Red Hat Virtualization 4.0. This was because the self-hosted engine agent for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.6 did not support it. It was also not possible to upgrade a self-hosted engine cluster from Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.6 to Red Hat Virtualization 4.0. During upgrade the cluster compatibility level was required to be set as Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.6 because the cluster contained some Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.6 hosts. This meant that deploying the self-hosted engine on an upgraded Red Hat Virtualization 4.0 host was only possible through the Administration Portal but at the same time the deployment was disabled due to compatibility issues. Now, the deployment of self-hosted engine hosts is allowed for hosts with a cluster compatibility level earlier than Red Hat Virtualization 4.0 but a warning is displayed advising the user that the deployment should only be performed on hosts with repositories for Red Hat Virtualization 4.0 or later. This means that it is now possible to upgrade a self-hosted engine cluster to Red Hat Virtualization 4.0. (BZ#1383156)
  • Since Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.6, ovirt-ha-agent has read its configuration, and the Manager virtual machine specification, from shared storage. Previously, they were just local files replicated on each involved host. This enhancement modifies the output of hosted-engine --vm-status to show if the configuration and the Manager virtual machine specification has been, on each reported host, correctly read from the shared storage. (BZ#1396672)
  • Previously, the results of a successful self-hosted engine migration were lost and the self-hosted engine agent reported that the migration failed. This was due to a race condition in VDSM and the self-hosted engine agent interface. Now, the absence of the virtual machine is treated as a sign of a successful migration. This means that the self-hosted engine agent correctly states 'EngineDown' on migration completion. (BZ#1411319)

Affected Products

  • Red Hat Virtualization 4 for RHEL 7 x86_64

Fixes

  • BZ - 1379404 - Build ovirt-hosted-engine-ha for RHEL 7 RHEV 4.1
  • BZ - 1383156 - Enable HE deploy option in 3.6 cluster compatibility and add note in hosted engine tab that it will only work in host that are 4.0 and above.
  • BZ - 1396672 - modify output of the hosted engine CLI to show info on auto import process
  • BZ - 1411319 - After successful migration of HE vm from host a to host b, immediately migrating back to host a fails with "Operation Canceled" from rhev manager portal.
