Updated dyninst packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

Dyninst is an Application Programming Interface (API) that permits the insertion
of code into a running program, as well as changing or removing subroutine calls
from application programs. Runtime code changes are useful for a variety of
uses, including debugging, performance monitoring, and composing applications
out of existing packages. The goal of Dyninst is to provide a
machine-independent interface to permit the creation of tools and applications
that use runtime code patching.

The dyninst packages have been upgraded to upstream version 8.2.0, which
provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version. Among
others:

• The ProcControl library has been improved to provide callbacks whenever a

syscall-monitored thread enters or exits a system call.

• The SymtabAPI library has been improved to support access to inline functions.
• Checks are now performed and errors returned in case the instrumentation

requires traps but the user has disabled them.

• The generation of XMM registers save and restore has been improved, and

function call snippets have been optimized as a result.

• Block-level instrumentation performance in shared code has been improved.
• Whenever possible, checks are now performed on parameter and return-value

snippets.

• Symbol visibility is now properly controlled, so that only public Dyninst

functions and variables are exposed to users.

Users of dyninst are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
