New devtoolset-3-elfutils packages are now available as part of Red Hat
Developer Toolset 3.0 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Description

elfutils is a collection of utilities and libraries for working with compiled
binary files. The devtoolset-3-elfutils packages provide the Red Hat Developer
Toolset version of elfutils.

This enhancement update adds the devtoolset-3-elfutils packages to Red Hat
Developer Toolset 3.0 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. These packages include
elfutils 0.159. This release provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements
over the version included in Red Hat Developer Toolset 2.1, for example:

• The elfutils libdwfl() functions have been extended to provide support for

associating a process state to a Dwfl object. A state can be attached
to a process or a core file using the new dwfl_core_file_attach() and
dwfl_linux_proc_attach() functions. When a state is attached to a Dwfl
object, a new function, dwfl_getthreads(), can be used to iterate over the
running threads. It is possible for each thread to unwind and inspect
the frames on the call stack using the new dwfl_getthread_frames() function.

• The eu-addr2line utility has a new option, "-x" or "--symbol-sections", to

show the section in which an address was found.

• A new utility, eu-stack, has been added that uses the new unwinder for

processes and cores.

• A backend for ARM 64-bit architecture has been added, which allows

manipulation of this architecture-specific ELF and DWARF files with elfutils.

All users who require devtoolset-3-elfutils are advised to install these new
packages.

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
