Updated coreutils packages that add one enhancement are now available for Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Description
The coreutils packages contain core GNU utilities, which represents a
combination of the old GNU fileutils, sh-utils, and textutils packages.
Shift_JIS (SJIS), is a character encoding for the Japanese language. These
packages provide coreutils support for the Shift_JIS encoding.
This update fixes the following enhancement:
- To avoid using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 coreutils packages that do not
contain the latest bug fixes and enhancements, the coreutils Shift_JIS packages
have been upgraded to version 8.4. Among other changes, the coreutils Shift_JIS
packages provide a fix ensuring that the "printf" command is now able to display
characters encoded in SJIS properly. (BZ#844840)
All users who require SJIS encoding support for coreutils are advised to upgrade
to these updated packages, which add this enhancement.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
