RHEA-2012:1525 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
new package: mingw-virt-viewer
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Topic
A new mingw-virt-viewer package is now available.
Description
The MinGW Windows virt-viewer console application implements, among other
things, the client side of SPICE protocol. This package contains the
remote-viewer executable, the next generation of spice-client.
This package fixes the following bugs:
- SPICE ActiveX failed to connect to SPICE's client-named pipe, which
terminated the client and returned an error code. This was because Windows
7 did not include the back-end server in Internet Explorer's list of
trusted sites. SPICE Client now sets the named pipe to low-integrity on
Windows7, so SPICE ActiveX can connect successfully to SPICE Client even if
the back-end server is not in Internet Explorer's list of trusted sites.
(BZ#844461)
- Previously, using the virt-viewer for Windows, the Print Screen, ' and "
keys were not sent to the guest. These keys are now sent to the guest when
using virt-viewer for Windows. (BZ#856312, BZ#856317)
- The number pad of the keyboard was not sent to the guest on previous
versions of mingw-virt-viewer, regardless of the 'Num Lock' key. Number pad
keys are now sent to the guest, and can be toggled using 'Num Lock'.
(BZ#856538)
- The mingw-virt-viewer installer did not recognize other running instances
of remote/virt-viewer, so certain files could not be updated. The
installer now displays a warning that another instance of either
virt-viewer or remote-viewer is running and prevents the installation from
continuing. (BZ#864033)
- When a remote-viewer client was closed while a USB device was connected
to a client machine, the client could not use the USB device. A new
package, usbclerk, temporary installs USB drivers on a per-session basis.
When the session is concluded, usbclerk uninstalls the USB drivers and
client machines regain access to their USB drives when remote-viewer
sessions are concluded. (BZ#869542)
- Previously, when connecting Windows 7 (or 8) guests with Windows 7 (or 8)
clients, the 'Windows' key was captured by both the guest and the client
instead of being passed solely to the guest. The 'Windows' key is now
captured only by the guest when the cursor is within the remote-viewer
window. (BZ#857389)
- Some multiple-screen users experienced inconsistent cursor behavior
(erratic cursor movement or an inability to return cursor to the client
window) due to a problem with the cursor clip. This error has been
corrected so users experience expected cursor behavior. (BZ#857430)
- Previously, the English keyboard mapping of the client keyboard was
incorrectly reordering the guest keyboard layout. The English keyboard is
now properly mapped. (BZ#871125)
- It was possible for 'Caps Lock' to become asynchronous when switching
between client and guest windows, then become locked. Now, 'Caps Lock'
behavior remains independently consistent in the client and guest windows.
(BZ#871562)
- Previously, the monitor numbers in the title bar and in the display menu
were different. This has been corrected so that the monitor numbers are
synchronized. (BZ#871575)
- Previously, the mouse pointer could become stuck in server mode when
using a Windows 7 client with dual monitors. The libspice-client-gtk has
been updated to restore predictable mouse behavior. (BZ#872640)
This package adds the following enhancements:
- minGW Windows virt-viewer console application implements, among other
things, the client side of SPICE protocol. This package contains the
remote-viewer executable, the next generation of spice-client. (BZ#849401)
- When remote-viewer received an invalid password it issued a prompt for
the correct password, or to cancel. Now, remote-viewer exits when the
controller is used and a password is needed. (BZ#861214)
Administrators of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environments should install
this new package.
