Topic

Updated SystemTap packages that fix various bugs and add several
enhancements are now available.

Description

SystemTap provides infrastructure to simplify the gathering of information
about the running Linux system, assisting in diagnosis of a performance or
functional problem. SystemTap eliminates the need for the developer to go
through the tedious and disruptive instrument, recompile, install, and
reboot sequence that may be otherwise required to collect data.

Several bugs have been fixed in the updated packages by updating to the
newer upstream packages.

Enhancements added in the updated packages include:

  • support for relocatable kernels.
  • enhanced support for probing inline functions.
  • additional auditing from a a kernel trace message created when a

systemtap probe runs.

  • improved the ability of begin and end probes to generate complex reports

by relaxing the atomicity and execution time constraints.

All users of SystemTap are advised to upgrade to these updated package.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
