Topic

Updated crash packages that add support for compressed dumpfiles, the IBM
S/390 processor, and the IBM zSeries processor are now available.

Description

The core analysis suite is a self-contained tool that can be used to
investigate either live systems, kernel core dumps created from the netdump
and diskdump packages from Red Hat Linux, the mcore kernel patch offered by
Mission Critical Linux, or the LKCD kernel patch.

The diskdump facility now includes a compressed dumpfile option. This new
format is different from the default ELF format and requires support within
the crash utility in order to be able to uncompress and read the dumpfile.

This update adds support for the IBM S/390 and zSeries processors.

Users of crash should upgrade to these updated packages, which add these
enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
