RHEA-2006:0065 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
diskdumputils enhancement update
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Topic
Updated diskdumputils packages that add various enhancements are now available.
Description
This package allows the swap partition to be used in lieu of a dedicated
dump partition. This simply requires that the administrator configure
the swap device as the DEVICE in /etc/sysconfig/diskdump.
Previously, the post-crash savecore operation re-formatted the dump
partition, destroying its contents. A new PRESERVEDUMP configuration
parameter has been added to /etc/sysconfig/diskdump that, when set to
PRESERVEDUMP=yes, prevents the re-formatting of the dump partition if the
savecore operation fails.
The DEVICE parameter in /etc/sysconfig/diskdump allows multiple devices to
be specified in a colon-separated list. These devices are now used in the
left-to-right order in which they are listed.
Swap partitions may not be registered as diskdump partitions because that
diskdump feature is not supported by the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 kernel.
Users of diskdumputils should upgrade to these updated packages, which add
these enhancements.
