Topic

This update provides the required changes to support printing the new Japanese Era name and formatting dates with the era name.

Description

The glibc packages provide the standard C libraries (libc), POSIX thread
libraries (libpthread), standard math libraries (libm), and the name service cache daemon (nscd) used by multiple programs on the system. Without these libraries, the Linux system cannot function correctly.

This update adds the following enhancement:

  • The Japanese Era name is changing on May 1st 2019, and this update provides the required changes to support printing correct dates via the %EC, %Ey and %EY date format specifiers using strftime and any OS interfaces that use stftime. In addition the appropriate UTF-8 changes are provided to manipulate and display the new era name. (BZ#1693128)

Users of glibc are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which add this enhancement.
