Topic
An updated preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 package is now available for the Extras channel of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Description
The preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 package provides a set of modules used for the assessment of the source system for the upgrade or migration to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 system. The modules are used by the preupgrade-assistant package.
The preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 package has been upgraded to version 0.7.9, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version. Notably:
- Prior to this update, the Preupgrade Assistent neither detected the Direct Access Storage Device (DASD) partition format, nor indicated that the Linux Disk Layout (LDL) format was unsupported on RHEL 7. Consequently, on the IBM Z architecture, if a partition was formatted with LDL on one or more DASDs, the upgrade process failed and caused a data loss on such a partition. With this update, the Preupgrade Assistent detects that the LDL format is used and adds relevant information to the resulting report. As a result, the Red Hat Upgrade Tool does not start the upgrade process and no data loss occurs. To successfully upgrade, migrate to the Common Disk Layout (CDL) format before upgrading to RHEL 7. (BZ#1618926)
- Previously, the Red Hat Upgrade Tool was unable to install GRUB 2 when GRUB Legacy was installed. This update fixes the bug, and the grub2 packages are successfully installed during an in-place upgrade. Note that the bootloader still needs to be replaced manually after the upgrade. For more information, see the System Administrator's Guide linked from the References section. (BZ#1673674)
