Topic

Updated kmod-kvdo packages that fix several bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The kmod-kvdo packages provide the kernel module for Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO), which is a block virtualization technology that enables you to create compressed and deduplicated pools of block storage.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Previously, VDO volumes were unable to grow if the underlying block device increased in size while the system was powered off or the VDO volume was offline. With this update, VDO correctly checks the requested size and the current size of the device, and, as a result, the described problem no longer occurs. (BZ#1591180, BZ#1600662)
  • Previously, creating a VDO volume on top of a RAID 50 array caused the system to halt unexpectedly. With this update, the problem has been fixed, and creating a VDO volume on RAID 50 no longer crashes the system. (BZ#1599668)
  • Previously, VDO did not correctly reinitialize certain structures when a discard spanned logical addresses on two different block map trees. As a consequence, a discard operation sometimes switched the affected VDO volume to read-only mode or corrupted data on it in rare cases. With this update, VDO now reinitializes the structures correctly, and the described problem no longer occurs. (BZ#1600058)

Users of kmod-kvdo are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs.
