Topic

Updated virtio-win packages that fix several bugs are now available for the Supplementary channel of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The virtio-win package provides paravirtualized network drivers for most Microsoft Windows operating systems. Paravirtualized drivers are virtualization-aware drivers used by fully virtualized guests running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Fully virtualized guests using the paravirtualized drivers gain significantly better I/O performance than fully virtualized guests running without the drivers.

This update fixes the following bugs:

  • Previously, high packet loss in some cases occurred on Windows guests that use the virtio interface. This update fixes the underlying code, and the affected guests no longer experience the increased packet loss. (BZ#1451978)
  • When performing a vCPU hot plug on Windows guest virtual machines, the QEMU emulator in some cases terminated unexpectedly. This update fixes a race condition in the virtqueue, which prevents the described problem from occurring. (BZ#1520352)
  • To be able to contain all necessary drivers, the Windows 10 floppy image has been split into two architecture-specific files: w10_amd64.vfd and w10_i386.vfd. (BZ#1535584)

Users of virtio-win are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs.
