Topic

An updated preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 package that fixes several bugs and adds various enhancements is now available for the Extras channel of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Description

The preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 package provides a set of modules used for the assessment of the source system for the upgrade or migration to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 system. The modules are used by the preupgrade-assistant package.

The preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 package has been upgraded to version 0.7.1, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version. (BZ#1503757)

This update also fixes the following bugs:

  • Starting with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4, the grub2 RPM package stopped obsoleting the grub package after the upgrade of the source system. As a consequence, the grub2 package was not installed on the target system automatically. With this update, the postupgrade script was added to ensure that the grub2 package is installed on the target system, which is the expected scenario. (BZ#1497731)
  • Since Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3, the default value of the "first_valid_uid" configuration option of Dovecot changed from "500" in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 to "1000" in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. Consequently, if a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 installation did not have "first_valid_uid" explicitly defined, the Dovecot configuration did not allow users with UID less than "1000" to log in after the update to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. Note that only installations where "first_valid_uid" was not explicitly defined were affected. This problem has been addressed by the post-upgrade script, which now changes the "first_valid_uid" value from "1000" to the original value on the source system. As a result, users with any UID are able to log in after the update to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. (BZ#1388967)

Users of preupgrade-assistant-el6toel7 are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes these bugs and adds these enhancements.
