Topic

Updated tar packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Description

The GNU tar program can save multiple files in an archive and restore files from an archive.

This update fixes the following bug:

  • Previously, when creating a PAX-format archive, the tar utility arbitrarily restricted the size of the representation of a sparse file to be less than 8 GB. An upstream patch has been backported to fix the bug. As a result, archiving of large sparse files is now handled properly. (BZ#1346666)

Users of tar are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
