RHBA-2016:1371 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
qemu-kvm-rhev bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated qemu-kvm-rhev packages that fix several bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor 7.
Description
KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a full virtualization solution for Linux on AMD64 and Intel 64 systems. The qemu-kvm-rhev packages provide the user-space component for running virtual machines using KVM in environments managed by Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- When QEMU was configured with the aio=native parameter, KVM virtual machines were slowed significantly. With this update, asynchronous I/O (AIO) can correctly process more than one request at a time, and using aio=native no longer has a negative impact on guest performance. (BZ#1327613)
- During the block-stream job of a live merge operation, the QEMU process in some cases became unresponsive. This update improves the handling of block jobs, which ensures that QEMU stays responsive during block-stream jobs as expected. (BZ#1329543)
- Previously, rebasing a virtual machine disk image to a file with a very long path caused the disk image to be impossible to open. With this update, the qemu-img utility correctly checks the name length of the backing file when rebasing, which prevents the image corruption. (BZ#1340045)
Users of qemu-kvm-rhev are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs. After installing this update, shut down all running virtual machines. Once all virtual machines have shut down, start them again for this update to take effect.
