Topic

Updated Samba package that fixes one bug and adds one enhancement is now available for Red Hat Gluster Storage 3.1 update 2

Description

Samba is an implementation of the server message block (SMB) protocol. It
allows the networking of Microsoft Windows®, Linux, UNIX, and other
operating systems together, enabling access to Windows-based file and
printer shares. Samba's use of SMB allows it to appear as a Windows server
to Windows clients.

This update fixes the following bug:

Due to a dependency in the packaging of Samba 4.2, it was not possible to install ctdb without installing Samba. With this update, this dependency has been resolved and now ctdb can be installed without installing Samba. (BZ#1305745)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancement:

  • With this release, asynchronous I/O from Samba to Red Hat Gluster Storage is supported. The 'aio read size' option is now set to 4096, which enables asynchronous I/0 for reads by default. This increases the throughput when the client is multithreaded or there are multiple programs accessing the same share. (BZ#1284870)

Users of Red Hat Gluster Storage are advised to upgrade to this updated package.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
