Topic

Updated OpenStack Block Storage packages that resolve various issues are
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5.0
(Icehouse) for RHEL 6.

Description

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for
building a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud
running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory includes
packages for:

  • OpenStack Block Storage service

OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and the
presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The back-end
physical storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and/or
NFS mounts attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block Storage supports
volume backups, and snapshots for temporary save and restore operations.
Programmatic management is available through the Block Storage service's
API.

This update addresses the following issues:

  • Previously, when systems were under heavy load, multipath detection

would take longer than expected and the device would not be detached if
the validation failed. As a result, Block Storage did not detect the
existence of the multipath in time and would work in the single path
mode even when the underlying operating system detected the multipath.
When the device was disconnected, it was as if it was a single path
device, and end up with leftovers in the system. On the multipath, even
though the paths were properly detected, they were all in a failed state
when tried to read from the device.
With this update, Block Storage is configured for multipath and there are
several retries to detect multipaths on connect. Also there are checks
on disconnect if a device that was single path changes to a multipath.
As a result, there are no leftovers devices attaches on validation
failures. (BZ#1255523)

  • With this update, a new feature adds the ability to clean up rows that

are already marked as deleted of a certain specified age. Age is
calculated as timedelta from now(), which are given using the command
line interface. This removes clutter from the Block Storage database,
significantly reduces the database size and improve maintainability of
the large deployments. (BZ#1281591)

  • Previously, the version resource constructed the links by using the

host_url, but the Image Service API endpoint may have been behind a
proxy or the SSl terminator.
With this update, a new configuration option 'public_endpoint' is
added to point to the public URL and to use for the versions
endpoint. (BZ#1237207)

Solution

Before applying this update, ensure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.

Fixes

  • BZ - 1237207 - http endpoint returned instead of https when cinder service calls are made
  • BZ - 1255523 - Controller node does not fully detach multipath device and the device can not be removed by manual means
  • BZ - 1266246 - Cinder volumes created from images are marked as available even though they were not successfully transferred and were unbootable
  • BZ - 1275032 - Cinder Create Volume from image hang and failed
  • BZ - 1281591 - Purge deleted rows from the database
  • BZ - 1283316 - cinder-api is consuming around 10GB RAM when running a "snapshot-list" command on the large set of data
