Topic

An updated hwdata package that fixes two bugs is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The hwdata package contains files with hardware identification and configuration data.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• The newly added secure hash algorithm (SHA) multi-buffer kernel module, sha1-mb, has been blacklisted to prevent it from negatively impacting system performance. Users who require the sha1-mb module now have to comment out the "blacklist sha1-mb" line in the /usr/lib/modprobe.d/dist-blacklist.conf file. (BZ#1208120)
• The current hardware-accelerated implementation of the aes_ctr cipher in the nx_crypto module does not work on the big-endian variants of IBM POWER8 machines. As a consequence, the Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP) Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) protocol previously failed when used on IBM Power Systems. This update blacklists nx_crypto on IBM Power Systems, and, as a result, ESP IPsec works as expected on the big-endian variant of IBM POWER8. Note that users running any IBM Power Systems other than the big-endian variant of IBM POWER8 can safely comment out the "blacklist nx_crypto" line in the /usr/lib/modprobe.d/dist-blacklist.conf file. Users of hwdata are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
