Topic

Updated OpenStack Block Storage packages that resolve various issues are
now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 7.0 (Kilo)
for RHEL 7.

Description

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for
building a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud
running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory includes
packages for:

  • OpenStack Block Storage service

OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and the
presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The back-end
physical storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and/or
NFS mounts attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block Storage supports
volume backups, and snapshots for temporary save and restore operations.
Programmatic management is available through the Block Storage service's
API.

This update addresses the following issues:

  • Previously, the volume creation process failed once the lvm_type parameter in the LVM driver was set to thin.

This bug has been resolved by a Logical Volume Management change in the process_each_lv. There is no error reported during volume creation with lvm_type set to thin. (BZ#1245053)

  • Previously, a detached volume lost its sparseness after Cinder side migration between different NetApp shares.

This patch adds an ability for drivers to copy data while preserving sparseness. Drivers can set self._sparse_copy_volume_data to opt in to copying data in a way that preserves sparseness. (BZ#1256745)

  • Previously, NetApp NFS drivers, both cDOT and 7mode, ignored nfs_oversub_ratio when reporting pool capacity. These drivers did not make use of the nfs_oversub_ratio configuration parameter to enable OpenStack administrators to report anything other than the most conservative capacity and usage information up to the scheduler. Since these drivers inherit from the generic NFS driver, where nfs_oversub_ratio can be configured, they allowed administrators to configure over-subscription, but did not actually implement it.

This fix now uses nfs_oversub_ratio when reporting pool capacity, and:

  • modifies the NetApp drivers to use the nfs_oversub_ratio as documented
  • uses direct API with filers to gather capacity information rather than stat and du commands
  • brings our reporting of reserved percentage in line with the way the scheduler actually makes use of this statistic
  • simplifies and cleans up the way we gather and report pool statistics (BZ#1251115)
  • Previously, when quota settings for a tenant were changed, no quota was left in place of removed quota settings. As a result, deleting quota for a tenant showed quota value as 0.

With this release, after quota settings deletion, setting values now return to default. (BZ#1183206)

  • The NetApp driver for E-series product lines supports iSCSI. This patch now also adds Fibre Channel support to the E-Series driver. Refactored the E-Series driver class structure to allow code reuse between the iSCSI and Fibre Channel drivers. (BZ#1242601)

Solution

Before applying this update, ensure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.
