Updated rsyslog5 packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

Description

The rsyslog5 packages provide an enhanced, multi-threaded syslog daemon. It
supports MySQL, syslog/TCP, RFC 3195, permitted sender lists, filtering on any
message part, and fine grain output format control.

This update fixes the following bug:

• Previously, configuring the syslog daemon to use additional rulesets and

utilize message spooling could lead to syslog terminating unexpectedly during
the shutdown process. Depending on the environment and the rest of the
configuration, this bug could manifest frequently or not at all. The packages
have been patched to fix this bug, and syslog no longer crashes in the
aforementioned situation. (BZ#1194440)

Users of rsyslog5 are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
this bug.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.
