Topic
An updated rhel-guest-image package that fixes several bugs and adds two enhancements is now available for the Red Hat Common channel of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
Description
The rhel-guest-image package provides a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 KVM Guest Image for cloud instances. This image is provided as a minimally configured system image which is available for use as-is or for configuration and customization as required by end users.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- Due to a bug in rhel_guest_image code, the value of the Operating System field in the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager interface was previously incorrectly displayed as "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x" after a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 guest was uploaded and a template imported. This update fixes this bug and the Operating System field now shows the correct guest information. (BZ#1111522)
- Previously, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 KVM Guest Image did not set the default kernel arguments in the /etc/default/grub file persistently. As a consequence, updating the kernel caused the adjusted arguments to disappear, and the related boot entries thus did not include a serial console. With this update, Guest Image changes made to /etc/default/grub are persistent, and all default kernel arguments will be set on kernel updates. (BZ#1173230)
- The "help" entry for the guest-image-ovf-creator.py script has been updated to display correct information about the "--symlink" option. (BZ#1139395)
- Prior to this update, starting a guest image in an environment that was using Simple Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) caused device names assigned to the guest's network interfaces to be different from the names in the default configuration file. As a consequence, the guest image could not acquire an IP address. This update disables the use of predictive interface naming when rhel-guest-image is used with SR-IOV, which prevents the problem from occurring. (BZ#1167852)
- Previously, if a guest image was run inside a nested virtual machine, the image automatically searched for a timing device. Consequently, the guest image sometimes became unresponsive when booting. With this update, the guest image is configured with the "no_timer_check" option, and now boots successfully in nested environments. (BZ#1144155)
In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:
- The rhel-guest-image packages now contain the README.rhev file, which provides users with information on using the image-uploader tool. (BZ#1112809)
- This update adds the tcpdump tool to the rhel-guest-image packages to allow for better debugging capabilities for users of guest images. (BZ#1149437)
Users of rhel-guest-image are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes these bugs and adds these enhancements.
