Topic

An updated man-pages-overrides package that fixes several bugs is now available
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The man-pages-overrides package provides a collection of manual (man) pages to
complement other packages or update those contained therein.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• The open(2) manual page contained insufficient information about transfer

sizes, alignment of the user buffer, and the file offset. As a consequence, when
the man page instructions were followed, direct I/O failed on XFS file systems.
The manual page has been updated to contain complete information. (BZ#1073718)

• Prior to this update, the information in the nl_langinfo(3) and charsets(7)

manual pages was incomplete. The nl_langinfo(3) manual page has been updated to
state that the code set for the en_US language defaults to Latin-1.
Additionally, a note has been added to the charsets(7) manual page that the
recommended encoding in all settings and locales is UTF-8. (BZ#1131939)

• The madvise(2) manual page has been updated to list all relevant file systems

for the "MADV_REMOVE" flag. (BZ#1120294)

• The missing description of the "no-tld-query" option has been added to the

resolv.conf(5) manual page. (BZ#1147718)

• Previously, the mailx(1) manual page contained incomplete information about

unsetting of environment variables, which could confuse the user. This update
adds the complete information to the mailx(1) manual page. (BZ#1109294)

• This update provides an improved description of setting variables with the

"-S" option in the mailx(1) manual page. (BZ#1109291)

• Previously, the xinetd(8) manual page contained incomplete information about

what happens to services during the xinetd daemon reload. This update adds a
paragraph about termination handling during the xinetd daemon reload to the
xinetd(8) manual page. (BZ#1146259)

• The host.conf(5) resolver library configuration manual page contained an

incorrect default value for the "multi" option. The host.conf(5) manual page has
been updated to state that the default value for "multi" is "on". (BZ#1131859)

• Multiple manual pages for the 64-bit ARM architecture have been updated to

describe deprecated system calls relevant only to this architecture.

• Previously, the zsh(1) manual page contained incomplete description concerning

emulation mode of the Z shell. This update adds the letter "b" to the list of
possible first letters invoking emulation. (BZ#1066917)

• The missing descriptions of the "-S, --sctp" and "-U, --udplite" options have

been added to the netstat(8) manual page. (BZ#1064756)

• Previously, the named(8) manual page stated that the system-config-bind

utility was not available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This outdated piece of
information has been removed from the man page. (BZ#1148758)

• The pam_krb5(8) manual page has been updated with the previously missing

description of the "ignore_afs" option. (BZ#964302)

• Previously, the proc(5) manual page did not describe all 52 fields of the

/proc/[pid]/stat file. This update adds the missing descriptions to proc(5).

• Previously, the vsftpd.conf(5) manual page did not provide descriptions of the

"isolate" and "isolate_network" options and contained incorrect default values
for the "max_clients" and "max_per_ip" options. This update adds the missing
descriptions and corrects the mentioned default values in vsftpd.conf(5).

• The flock(2) manual page contained insufficient information about locking

files over NFS. With this update, a more precise description of this topic has
been added to flock(2). (BZ#1129235)

• The missing fanotify(7), fanotify_init(2), and fanotify_mark(2) manual pages

have been added. (BZ#1155260)

Users of man-pages-overrides are advised to upgrade to this updated package,
which fixes these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
