Updated rasdaemon packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The rasdaemon packages provide a RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) logging tool, which records memory errors, using the EDAC tracing events.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• Previously, the return value of the snprintf() function was not used correctly in the bitfield.c:bitfield_msg() function of the rasdaemon utility. Consequently, a buffer overflow occurred when the buffer was too small. This bug has been fixed, and the buffer overflow no longer occurs. (BZ#1035741)
• This update fixes bugs in the mce-amd-k8.c:bank_name() and

ras-mc-handler.c:ras_mc_event_handler() functions of the rasdaemon utility.

• Previously, the rasdaemon unit file did not include the rasdaemon command with the "-r" option that records errors to a database. Consequently, the database was not created, which caused an error when the ras-mc-ctl utility attempted to query it. With this update, the "-r" option has been included in the service file, and the database is now created by default. (BZ#1117366)
• Prior to this update, the rasdaemon unit file did not include the rasdaemon command with the "--enable" option. Consequently, rasdaemon did not enable the tracepoints used by Hardware Error Reporting Mechanism (HERM) to pass events to user space. With this update, the "--enable" option has been included in the service file, and the tracepoints are now correctly enabled. (BZ#1117367)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:

• With this update, the rasdaemon package has been modified to build

successfully on host machines using the 64-bit ARM CPU architecture.

• With this update, the rasdaemon package has been modified to build

successfully on host machines using the little-endian variant of the IBM Power Systems CPU architecture. (BZ#1125663)

• With this update, support for processing eMCA errors from perf trace kernel interfaces has been added to the rasdaemon utility. (BZ#1085519)

Users of rasdaemon are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
fixthese bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
