Topic

Updated subscription-manager packages that fix numerous bugs and add
various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The subscription-manager packages provide programs and libraries to allow users
to manage subscriptions and yum repositories from the Red Hat entitlement
platform.

The subscription-manager-migration-data packages have been upgraded to upstream
version 2.0.18, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the
previous version. (BZ#1146986)

This update also fixes the following bugs:

• Prior to this update, changes to repository configuration in the

/etc/yum.repos.d/redhat.repo file made manually or using yum-config-manager were
overwritten by the subscription-manager yum plug-in. This bug has been fixed,
and the subscription-manager yum plug-in no longer overwrites user-defined
changes. (BZ#1098891)

• Previously, unexpected server problems could lead to replies to

subscription-manager that were not JSON-formatted. This in turn caused
subscription-manager to log traceback errors. As a consequence,
subscription-manager appeared to be working incorrectly even though the error
was only in the server. With this update, subscription-manager has been fixed to
handle network errors gracefully. Network errors and non-JSON responses from the
server are now filtered and logged as expected. (BZ#1167463)

• The subscription-manager yum plugin rewrote the redhat.repo file with each yum

transaction, despite the fact that no changes have been made. Consequently,
because of a change in the last modification time of redhat.repo, yum reloaded
the metadata, which caused an unnecessary performance delay. With this update,
the redhat.repo file is no longer being re-written unnecessarily during
execution of the yum subscription-manager plugin, thus avoiding the performance
delay. (BZ#1104731)

• Previously, the rhsm-debug utility did not correctly handle timeouts.

Consequently, the sosreport and abrt utilities did not collect debug
information. With this update, rhsm-debug handles timeouts gracefully, so that
sosreport and abrt collect debug information as expected. (BZ#1093325)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:

• The subscription-manager manual page has been enhanced to correctly describe

the --consumerid option. (BZ#1122107)

• With this update, new systemd-rpm macros have been introduced to the

subscription-manager spec file. (BZ#850331)

• The output of the 'subscription-manager subscribe --auto' command has been

enhanced to inform the user if it was unable to find available subscriptions for
all installed products. (BZ#864195)

• This update adds the rhsm.conf(5) manual page to subscription-manager

packages. (BZ#990183)

• When using subscription-manager to register from the command line to an

entitlement server that supports environments, no prompt was given for the
environment, even though interactive prompts for username, password, and
organization worked as expected. This update adds the interactive prompt for
environments. (BZ#1065158)

• This update adds the --matches option to the "subscription-manager list"

command, which enables searching for user-defined text in returned entries.
Also, the --pool-only option has been added to easily attach to pools matching
the string specified in --matches. (BZ#1146125, BZ#1159974)

• With this update, and appropriate message is displayed when

subscription-manager list commands find results. (BZ#1151925)

Users of subscription-manager are advised to upgrade to these updated packages,
which fix these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
