Updated iscsi-initiator-utils packages that fix several bugs are now available
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The iscsi-initiator-utils packages provide the server daemon for the Internet
Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) protocol, as well as the utility
programs used to manage it. The iSCSI protocol is a protocol for distributed
disk access using SCSI commands sent over Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

This update fixes the following bugs:

• Prior to this update, the iscsiadm(8) man page did not list discovery as a

valid value to the "--mode" operator. With this update, discovery has been added
to the list of valid "--mode" values in the iscsiadm(8) man page. (BZ#963039)

• Previously, receiving an unexpected netlink message from the kernel, when the

iscsiadm utility was waiting for a discovery login to complete, could cause a
NULL pointer dereference. As a consequence, iscsiadm terminated unexpectedly
with a segmentation fault, and the iSCSI discovery operation failed to complete.
This update adds a guard against the delivery of unexpected netlink events, and
iscsiadm now safely ignores these events and continues waiting for the discovery
login to complete. (BZ#1040343)

• A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found. With demand loading of iSCSI

transport drivers, these drivers could expose an iSCSI host bus adapter (HBA) to
the iSCSI user space tools before device initialization was complete.
Consequently, commands sent to the drivers before the device was fully
initialized could cause errors in the kernel. The kernel drivers have been
modified to safely return an error message, and the iSCSI user space has been
updated to recognize when an iSCSI device is not ready and to retry the command.

• Prior to this update, the iscsi service entered a failed state when it could

not log in to one or more of the configured iSCSI target portals. With this
update, iscsi has been modified to initiate login requests to configured target
portals and to ignore the success or failure of these attempts when setting the
service state. (BZ#1111925)

• Previously, the iscsi systemd services did not fully enable the special

systemd remote-fs targets. Consequently, iSCSI sessions could be terminated
while the storage accessed through them was still mounted, and file-system
errors and corruption could occur. The iSCSI service units have been updated to
properly request the remote-fs targets, and the system now shuts down and
reboots without file-system errors. (BZ#1126524)

• Previously, some active iSCSI sessions were under certain circumstances not

terminated when the network connection was interrupted during system shutdown.
Consequently, the system expected the block device to be functional when the
iSCSI session was still active, and the SCSI "SYNCHRONIZE CACHE" command sent to
the block device failed. This update modifies the iSCSI service to log out of
all sessions at system shutdown, except for the sessions created in early boot
to reach the root file system. As a result, the iSCSI sessions are now
terminated during shutdown, safely detaching the SCSI devices from the system
before the network connection is interrupted. (BZ#1166713)

• Previously, a packaging problem could cause the iscsiuio socket activation to

not be enabled after iscsi-initiator-utils installation. As a consequence,
iscsiuio did not start when required, and the bnx2i iSCSI host bus adapters
(HBAs) did not work properly. With this update, the problem has been fixed, and
iscsiuio activation is enabled after iscsi-initiator-utils installation.

Users of iscsi-initiator-utils are advised to upgrade to these updated packages,
which fix these bugs.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
