Updated slapi-nis packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

The slapi-nis packages contain the NIS server plug-in and the Schema
Compatibility plug-in for use with the 389 Directory Server.

The slapi-nis packages have been upgraded to upstream version 0.54, which
provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version,
including the support for the ID Views feature, which is required for one of the
major Red Hat Enterprise Linux Identity Management features. (BZ#1151436)

This update also fixes the following bugs:

• Due to incorrect default settings, directory servers that were configured to

provide host address information in the form of NIS "hosts.byname" and
"hosts.byaddr" maps produced map entry values in which the first field was a
host name instead of an IP address. Consequently, clients ignored the value
obtained from the NIS server and proceeded as if no matching entry was found in
the NIS map. With this update, the default settings have been corrected, and
clients are now able to parse host address information retrieved from servers
that are configured to provide it. (BZ#1090948)

• Previously, slapi-nis transformed uppercase characters in an Active Directory

(AD) domain name into lowercase characters. As a consequence, searching for user
groups using the ldapsearch command could return incomplete results because the
LDAP search filter is case-sensitive. A patch has been applied to fix this
problem, and the search for user groups now returns complete results when an AD
domain name contains uppercase characters. (BZ#1130131)

Users of slapi-nis are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
these bugs and add these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
