Updated virt-manager packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Description

Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager) is a graphical tool for administering virtual machines for KVM, Xen, and QEMU. The virt-manager utility uses the libvirt API and can start, stop, add or remove virtualized devices, connect to a graphical or serial console, and view resource usage statistics for existing virtualized guests on local or remote machines.

The virt-manager packages have been upgraded to upstream version 1.1.0, which provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous version. Among others, OS dependent data is no longer maintained by the virt-manager utility but it is read from the libosinfo library. This allows for improved setting of the default values, such as the RAM size, storage size, and number of CPUs, according to the OS chosen at installation time. (BZ#1055588)

This update also fixes the following bugs:

• Prior to this update, the virt-manager utility was unable to parse IPv6 addresses correctly. Consequently, it was impossible to connect to a remote host using an IPv6 address. This bug has been fixed, and virt-manger is now able to use IPv6 addresses. (BZ#1094631)
• Previously, the virt-manager utility did not generate a random MAC address. As a consequence, a MAC address could be specified only by the user. This bug has been fixed, and virt-manager now properly generates a random MAC address. (BZ#1164123)
• Previously, the virt-manager utility added four redirection devices by default. Consequently, no slot was left available for a USB device. With this update, the default number of redirection devices has been reduced to two, and more slots are now available for USB devices. (BZ#1175447)

In addition, this update adds the following enhancement:

• This update introduces the new virt-xml tool, which allows for easier modifications of the XML description of guests. (BZ#1162755)

Users of virt-manager are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix these bugs and add these enhancements.
